Michigan Democrats in Chaos: First-Term Congresswoman Eyes Senate Run After Buttigieg Bows Out
LANSING – The Democratic Party’s endless game of political musical chairs continues, as first-term U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet is already looking to abandon the job she was just elected to and launch a Senate campaign—a move that even fellow Democrats call opportunistic and reckless.
McDonald Rivet, who hasn’t even finished her first few months in Congress, is reportedly in discussions with union bosses, party insiders, and left-wing activists to position herself for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat. This comes after former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced he won’t run, despite his disastrous record in Washington leaving many in Michigan relieved.
Another Career Politician Looking for a Promotion
The freshman congresswoman, a former state senator from Bay City, has a history of jumping ship for political gain. She left the Michigan Senate early to run for Congress and is now trying to leapfrog into the U.S. Senate before she’s even warmed her seat in the House. Even Democratic strategist Adrian Hemond couldn’t ignore the obvious:
“You just got to Washington, for Christ’s sake. You didn’t serve a full term in the state Senate, and now you’re going to immediately start campaigning for the U.S. Senate after getting elected to Congress?”
If McDonald Rivet’s pattern holds, Michigan voters can expect her to abandon the Senate for another job as soon as the next opportunity arises.

With Buttigieg out, the Democratic bench is looking weaker than ever. Among those considering a run are:
Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Birmingham) – A career politician who flipped a suburban seat but has achieved little in Congress.
State Sen. Mallory McMorrow (D-Royal Oak) – Known more for performative activism than actual results.
Attorney General Dana Nessel – A radical leftist who has weaponized her office for partisan witch hunts.
Hillary Scholten (D-Grand Rapids) – Another uninspiring career politician who toes the party line.
Abdul El-Sayed – A failed gubernatorial candidate with a radical socialist agenda.
With no clear frontrunner and a fractured Democratic Party, the race is shaping up to be a political free-for-all. Michigan voters deserve better than self-serving politicians jockeying for power.
Michigan Democrats Abandoning Voters, Failing to Deliver Results
While McDonald Rivet and her Democratic colleagues scheme their next career moves, Michigan is suffering under failed leadership:
Runaway inflation is crushing working families.
Skyrocketing crime is plaguing Detroit and other major cities.
Michigan’s economy is lagging behind, with businesses fleeing the state due to overregulation and excessive taxation.
Democrats waste billions on green energy boondoggles, while residents struggle to pay energy bills.
Rather than fixing these real problems, Democrats are obsessed with power, identity politics, and expanding government control. Their dysfunctional party is more focused on their next campaign than actually governing for the people of Michigan.
Republicans Ready to Lead
On the Republican side, strong conservative leaders are lining up to put Michigan first:
Former Rep. Mike Rogers – A proven leader with a record of fighting for Michigan jobs and security.
Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-Holland) – A principled conservative with deep grassroots support.
Tudor Dixon – A fearless fighter for Michigan’s families and businesses.
The contrast couldn’t be clearer. While Democrats play political musical chairs, Republicans are focused on fixing Michigan’s economy, securing elections, defending parental rights, and restoring common sense in Washington.
Conclusion: Michigan Deserves Better Than Power-Hungry Democrats
