On March 9th, self-proclaimed democratic socialist Bernie Sanders took the stage in Warren, Michigan, railing against “oligarchy” and claiming to stand for the working class. More than 10,000 people turned out to hear Sanders repeat his familiar rhetoric, attacking billionaires and corporations while conveniently ignoring his own deep ties to the very system he claims to despise.
Socialism’s Empty Promises and Real-World Failures
Sanders has spent his career peddling socialist fantasies that have never worked anywhere in history. From Venezuela to the Soviet Union, every attempt at socialism has led to economic collapse, mass poverty, and government tyranny. Yet, Sanders continues to deceive his followers into believing that more government control will somehow lead to prosperity.
While promising a utopia where the government provides free healthcare, childcare, and housing, Sanders fails to acknowledge the crippling taxation, economic stagnation, and loss of personal freedom that come with socialism. How exactly does he expect to pay for his grand vision? The answer is simple: through massive taxation on the working and middle class—not just the wealthy he constantly demonizes.

The Hypocrisy of Sanders’ Anti-Oligarchy Crusade
At his rally in Warren, Sanders ranted about how America is controlled by billionaires, pointing to Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg as symbols of “corporate greed.” Yet, he failed to mention his own campaign contributions from Big Pharma and special interests.
Sanders, who has positioned himself as an enemy of pharmaceutical companies, has taken donations from the very industry he claims to fight against. While publicly railing against Big Pharma price-gouging, he quietly accepts their money behind the scenes. If he truly believes in fighting corporate corruption, why is he benefitting from it?
According to OpenSecrets, Senator Bernie Sanders received approximately $1,965,000 from individuals and PACs affiliated with the pharmaceutical and health products industry between 1990 and 2024. opensecrets.org

Who Really Benefits from Sanders’ Policies?
Despite his claims of representing the “working class,” Sanders’ policies do nothing but grow the size of government and restrict economic freedom. In reality, his push for expanded government programs only leads to higher taxes, increased government dependency, and inefficiency.
Meanwhile, the real oligarchs he claims to fight—Democratic mega-donors, corporate elites, and the D.C. political machine—continue to thrive under the socialist policies he advocates for.
A Socialist’s True Intentions: Control, Not Justice
Sanders’ rally wasn’t about “fighting oligarchy”—it was about expanding government power and pushing a failed ideology that has only led to suffering and oppression wherever it has been implemented. His calls to “fight back” are nothing more than a veiled attempt to push socialism under the guise of economic justice.
The truth is simple: Socialism does not work. It never has, and it never will. Bernie Sanders, despite his grandstanding, is just another politician using false promises and empty rhetoric to maintain his own power while enriching himself along the way.
If Sanders truly wanted to fight corruption, he would start by rejecting the money and influence of the same corporations he rails against. But, as always, socialism is not about fairness—it’s about control.
